Paint Problems and Solutions
Alligatoring
A pattern of interconnected cracks that resemble the scales of an alligator's skin.
Blistering/Bubbling
Paint blistering, sometimes referred to as paint bubbling, refers to the lifting of the paint film from the underlying surface, resulting in the formation of bubbles or blisters in the paint layer. This phenomenon can occur due to various factors such as heat, moisture, or a combination of both.
Blocking
Blocking is a common term in the coatings industry referring to when two painted surfaces stick together when pressed against each other, even after the paint has dried. It can be a significant issue in areas where painted surfaces, such as windows, doors, or cabinetry, come in contact frequently.
Burnishing
Burnishing refers to the unwanted development of shiny or polished spots on painted surfaces due to repeated rubbing or scrubbing (easier to spot on darker paint colours).
Chalking
Chalking refers to the formation of a white, powdery residue on painted surfaces as the paint begins to break down, particularly in exterior settings where it's exposed to the elements.
